Well and truly on the count down to break up for Christmas now, the Lions and Tigers did a great job at their first dress rehearsal on Friday, we have one more dress rehearsal on Monday to Key Stage 2 and then are pleased to welcome you all to watch on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning (please remember to let us know how many chairs we need out and place your orders for DVD and Photos)

Please remember on Wednesday 13th Dec it is our Christmas Jumper day, children may come in their Christmas jumper rather than the school one.

The children are enjoying our elves Twinkle and Jingle, who are setting them challenges. There is also lots of writing to Santa, who is very busy replying to all the children’s letters.

This week we adjusted our timetable slightly to fit in rehearsals which meant some how we only changed books twice, we will be checking reading records as normal on Monday however will for one week only accept reading twice rather than three times towards the treat. However children are always welcome to read anything from home or the library too! 🙂 The more reading the more chances to support their reading development and we don’t mind if it is not the book from school as long as it is expanding your child’s interest in books.

Lions and Tigers have completed their stories about the toys and we then read the book Kipper’s toy box and compared the story we wrote too it. We tried to think about what was similar and what was different.

In Maths, we have focused on a new number each day, exploring what it looks like in numicon, ways to make it with objects, what it looks like on our fingers as well as in a tally. We also considered one more and one less than the number of the day.

The lions and tigers have been really busy this week, they are practicing hard for the nativity. Please help them practice their lines, we are trying to remember our lines and say them loudly.

We have been measuring this week, ordering objects by size and looking at the size of objects as well as looking at the size of the worlds tallest man. The lions and tigers ordered numicon based on its number, some children even added the numeral to the numicon peice.

The children made their own sock thing to make up for the one that was missing in the story we are creating. Mollie, Oliver and Trae completed their green word wheels.

finally on Friday we were joined but Tinkle and Jingle the elves, they are going to set us some challenges over the next few weeks of term.

We have had a lovely week this week, Tuesday we were pleased to welcome so many mums and dads into the classroom to see our big writing day work. On Wednesday the fire fighters visited us from Worksop fire station, Red Watch talked to the children about checking smoke alarms at home, they told the Lions and Tigers about what to do if they ever caught on fire, STOP, DROP and ROLL. They also set the children a CHALLENGE of learning their address in case they ever needed to call the emergency services. We will be asking the children over next week to see if they know it and if they do we will give them 5 team points. They were very impressed that the children knew the number to call was 999. Red watch also brought their fire engine which we explored. The fire fighters allowed the children to sit in the cab and use the hose.

It’s been a very busy few weeks and every time I’ve sat down to do this blog I seem to have got sidetracked as we have been doing so many exciting things. Hopefully the children have been talking to you about what we have been up to.

Last week we completed learning about Diwali including making choc coco balls as our Indian sweets, everyone really enjoyed making them even if it was rather messy. Los of children enjoyed tasting them as well as eating some Indian food. We have been very impressed with how much the lions and tigers have been able to tell us about Diwali.

We have also been talking about remembrance and looking at poppies. This resulted in some amazing observational drawings from the children as well as lots of discussion.

Finally we have been learning about toys as well as looking at money for our toy shop. Children have been counting coins as well as matching the coins, all the 1p together, all the 2ps etc.

Looking forward to next week when we hopefully have some surprise visitors for the children on Wenesday (check the news letter for your info but please remember it is a surprise for the lions and tigers) and our big write day on Tuesday.

A wonderful first week of our new half term. We have begun learning about Diwali as well as discussing bonfire and firework safety, the children had lots of wonderful ideas and i am enjoying reading your comments on our firework blog.

In maths we have been making patterns and sorting objects as well as looking at Rangoli patterns and creating our own.

Many Lions and Tigers went to their first school disco and enjoyed dressing up.

On Friday we were thrilled to welcome families in to work on our belonging activities.

Miss Lucas, Mrs Roys, Miss Gill, Miss Green and I are really looking forward to Monday when the Lions and Tigers will be doing some Diwali dancing, we will plan to tweet and blog about it.

Its been a week of firsts this week, first Harvest celebration, which included the first time singing in the hall to parents and other children and first school trip. All in all a wonderful week, although we do know that the children are getting rather tired.

We have been looking at rhyming during literacy this week, learning and practicing nursery rhymes ready for our Nursery Rhyme Challenge on Thursday 19th at 2pm. Also in preparation for this the children have been making wonderful musical instruments this week with all the junk you and other staff in school have brought us. Thank you very much.

In maths we have been exploring 2d shapes, searching for them in the classroom and around the school playground, have you found any together at home?

On Tuesday morning we were delighted to welcome you into school for our Harvest celebration and the children sang ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ superbly, we were very proud of them. They even demonstrated how well they knew the words when they visited the Library and sang it to the Librarians.

Thursday brought another first as the Lions and Tigers looked wonderful in their fancy dress and behaved so well on our visit to Worksop Library. A huge thank you to everyone who offered to join us on the trip and my appologies to anyone I had to turn away, the bus company actually sent us a much larger bus than expected so we could have taken you all. I am sure the children are sneaking into the kitchen at home to see if the fruit are having a party after we heard the lovely story ‘Kitchen Disco’  and the Tigers certainly woke up a few people in Worksop as we shouted along to the story ‘there’s a shark in the park’!

Looking forward to our last week of half term, it really has gone very quick.

This week the children have been enjoying exploring vegetables, we are looking at Supertato in literacy and have been planning our own stories about the vegetables.

The Lions and Tigers have proved that they are very creative, using our junk modelling as well as building with the tyres and waffle outside.

Digging in the mud has been a big hit, lots of wonderful language about more, less, deeper and full.

We have been playing lots of games of dominoes, counting the pictures and matching to numbers.

Lions and Tigers have joined in really well during Sticky Kids in the mornings, we will usually head straight to the hall on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Following lunch the children have been really enjoying our Funky fingers time, a bit of dancing while using our arm and shoulder muscles before quick activities which support our hand strengthening and pincer grip. This has then supported our mark making and picture drawing.

Miss Lucas and I are really enjoying reading your children’s reading records and finding out about the stories you are being told, lots of children are on track for their reading treat at the end half term.

A very busy few weeks and we know the children are getting tired from all their exploring and learning. Keep it up everyone.
